Buying a Digital Camera

The invention of camera is one of the biggest
breakthroughs in the human civilization. One can comfort a
gloomy moment of life by looking at the photos of happier
moments of the days gone bye. The transition of camera
from film type camera, into digital camera enhances the
quality of photos and takes away the need for the chemical
processing. My first digital camera was over $700 and had
the amazing resolution of 640x480, fixed focus, no flash
etc. We have sure come a long way from that.
If you want to buy a digital camera, one thing is sure
that you can go nuts with all the choices of brands and
models. It is important to make sure that the camera you
end up with supports all the functions you want. I
recommend that you start by making a list of features you
want and what the main uses will be. You will likely
modify the list at some time along the way, but it's a
good starting point. Some things you may want to include
are; handy controls, fits comfortably in your hands, LCD
screen that can be seen in different lightning conditions,
go right through your list of other features you want to
have. Never buy for the sake of a cheap price with out a
complete check out. Very often, especially online, sellers
sell at the cheap rate without accessories such as
batteries or the USB cable or dock. I recommend that you
buy your camera from an authorized source who provides a
warranty.
A digital camera is more expensive then an ordinary
camera. It incorporates many advanced features which are
not included in the 35mm camera. You will get different
types of digital cameras in the market. Remember that
every camera will NOT suit your needs. You should buy the
one that will suit your needs and budget. There are lots
of things you will need to consider while buying a camera.
Type of camera, features like flash, zoom, memory,
resolution, battery life and type, your passion and
shopping tips need to be considered.
A very important factor you will consider while buying
digital camera is price. buying one that is within your
budget may not be as easy as you think. It is important
to keep the camera itself low enough so you can budget for
the extra batteries, cases, and memory cards that may be
sold separately.. The best thing is to narrow down
your choices into two or three models and then starts
comparing the features and quality, write down your
comments on each model. Don't be carried away by a savvy
sales person. I also recommend to carefully consider brand
names.
Professional digital cameras: Professional cameras are the
best quality cameras used by the professionals. The
professional digital Single Lens Reflex cameras (DSLR) are
very expensive. They produce top quality pictures. They
come with extraordinary optics and sophisticated
accessories and function automatically. Most of these
cameras do not come with lenses so you will need to buy
separately. At the same time, these cameras accept
identical lenses.
Consumer digital cameras: These are the most widely used
digital camera. They can be small, compact, lightweight
and capable of taking very good quality photos. I
recommend at least 2 megapixle for general use and at
least 3 megapixle for printing up to 8x10's. some small
cameras have very high megapixles, that go beyond the
quality of the lenses. Price varies according to the
features. I also like cameras powered by standard
batteries so it is easy to keep or get spares. This can
save a vacation photo opportunity and is easier then
searching a theme park for a place to plug in your charger.
Prosumer digital cameras are a crossover between the
professional and the consumer cameras: These cameras have
high quality lenses. You can get the models with zoom.
Many have advanced features like automatic and
semi-automatic controls. You can get accessories like
filters, remote controls, macro lenses, and lots more.
With prosumer digital cameras. You will likely find the
photos taken to be generally better then the consumer
line of cameras but they are more complex to operate..
Extended zoom cameras are part of the prosumer category.
They have an 8x or higher optical zoom compared to 3X with
standard cameras. Optical zoom means that the lens
provides the zoom, not the computer chip. Many also
add a digital zoom above the optical zoom. It may be a
good idea to check out models having image stabilization
if you are using high zoom lenses. Image stabilization can
help to prevent the photos from getting blurred by
reducing the vibration caused by your hands at high zoom.
It should be remembered that optical stabilization is
used in these cameras but not the digital stabilization.
The kind of camera you will use depends on your passion.
A simple point-and-shoot will meet your needs if you are
a snapshooter. Buy the printer that supports PictBridge if
you want to connect your digital camera directly to the
photo printer.
